The Major Stuff of E3 2015: Ubisoft

I'm still yet to rummage through the trough of E3 in order to find my most anticipated games of the expo. As a general rule, the games which people should be getting all hyped about, are the ones which manage to sneakily evade the big conferences. I mean yeah, Cuphead looks like the cutesy platformer/side-scroller of the year, which is all well and good, but apart from the lovely art style, it ain't exactly pushing any boundaries, is it?

My hopes were fully riding on the remaining conferences, and as you can guess, they're still yet to be fulfilled. Maybe I'm just getting old and can't get excited about games anymore, or maybe EA should decide to cater to the fans yet again and just make Bad Company 3, hopefully not in the typical prequel/reboot fashion.

Anyway, there was some decently decent stuff, and here it is, (mostly).

Ubisoft's Display of Dank Memes

Some poor guy dressed up as a character from the upcoming AC: Syndicate, and Aisha Tyler pretty much forced said chap to pitch a meme there and then. The CIA could learn a thing from Tyler's type of interrogation. (That being said, she does have to work with Ubi's questionable scripts and is doing her best, so just ignore that).

But yes, Batman AC: Syndicate has at least two new features which I could clearly take note of; one being horse-drawn carriages, and the second being a rope-launcher/grapple-gun thingy. And a new setting in London, in the prime of the industrial revolution, so I guess three new things, really.

Does it look any good though? It looks like more Assassin's Creed, mate.

On a slightly more optimistic note, a new South Park game has been revealed, the aptly titled The Fractured but Whole. It's safe to assume that it won't be as big of a surprise as The Stick of Truth, but if it's as clever in its use of original assets and introduction to the world of South Park, it'll be grand.

One thing that had me slightly worried was Tyler's question to Matt Stone and Trey Parker. After saying that they'd never make another video game again, they essentially retorted with "we're doing it again". Oh, okay guys. It better be good, I know it's all about superheroes now but that best not be the only thing that changes, don't go all Assassin's Creed on us here.

Oh yeah, the title is an arse joke. And I'll bet the entire "we won't accept anything less than a 9.5 on GameSpot" thing won't go south really quickly. Ah well, they seem like lovely guys...

Because Ubisoft have a thing for not letting things die, and you know, they want to believe they didn't waste their money, The Crew: Wild Run was shown off as an expansion to... that game. I would say the trace elements of Motorstorm would have me a little bit excited for this new development, but that would imply that Ubisoft had my attention to begin with.

Yet again, there was more of The Division and Rainbow Six Siege. I can't help but think these games were a bit less significant given their presence in other conferences, but ah well, I suppose it's not like they're new announcements or anything...

Oh yeah, The Division's out on the 8th of March, which is just enough time for those who are still interested in the game to stop caring. You know, what with Fallout 4 and all.

Because Americans cannot spell, the incorrectly labelled upcoming title For Honor will be completely ignored on this British blog. Nah, but seriously, it looks like if the makers of Chivalry decided to pump an extra few million into their budget, and then whack in some MOBA bits for good measure.

Quite honestly, even though melee combat games aren't normally my thing, this was the most interesting title for me in the Ubi conference; an original IP which seems to be doing something new, that is until it becomes filled with micro-transactions and pre-order bonuses.

Anno 2205 is also a new thing. I tried to get into the likes of Civilization 5 and SimCity 4, but to no avail, so apologies if I don't share your enthusiasm for this upcoming title. If you like, you can build settlements on the moon, and putting anything in space instantly makes it better. So I'm guessing this Anno will be better than the last, (if they do something about the DRM, that is).

Just Dance 2016 was shown too. Presumably because the new Guitar Hero and Rock Band games made someone at Ubi think they could get away with it. That's all you're getting from me on this particular matter. Excuse me while I have flashbacks to atrocious plastic peripherals, oh God.

Ghost Recon: Wildlands was Ubisoft's big finish, and in order to prove how phresh and dank they are, they got Aisha Tyler to sell the absolute shit out of it. Just hang on until the end of the reveal for her barrage of buzzwords. Either she's paid well, or is a bit too passionate about it.

Ubi may have not had the most fashion disasters this year, but man, they're crap at acting. Aisha, memes and acting are a lot like poop, in that they shouldn't be clearly forced, #IKnowYouFeltThat.

But yeah, Wildlands, as with half of the games at the expo, look pretty promising, only this title has huge potential to turn into a four-player co-op tower capture simulator. I mean, we've been promised amazingly seamless cooperation before, but it's never really worked out properly. Here's hoping that Wildlands can fix that, and that it doesn't try to be Advanced Warfighter, Rainbow Six Vegas, and Future Soldier all at once...

What else was there in all these conferences? Well, other things. New games, old games, and some shitty continued practices. But they're in different conferences, so they shall be discussed in different posts. You tit.
